No places found.

If the place of birth is not displayed as a suggestion, you can specify the coordinates manually in “Decimal degrees” (DD) format.
By default the time zone (including summer time) is determined from the birth place and date, even for historical dates; the sheet notes any uncertainty. Pick a zone or enter a UTC offset only if you are certain the clock at birth followed it.
Only matters if the birth time falls in the hour that repeats when clocks are set back at the end of summer time. Choose Yes or No if you know what the clock showed; otherwise leave “Not sure”.

About

A Namkha is a traditional Tibetan thread-cross: colored threads wound around wooden sticks in a pattern that is individual to each person, based on Tibetan astrology. This app calculates the colors for a Namkha in the tradition of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche.

Fill in the date, time, and place of birth, then press the Calculate button (if you are unsure of the birth time, enter an approximate time or simply noon). The app works out the harmonization of the elements and prepares a calculation sheet for you: a color table for every part of the Namkha, notes worth knowing about the calculation, and a picture of how the finished Namkha should look. You can read the sheet right here on the page, or download it as a PDF file that is ready to print.

You do not need to know the time zone of the birth – the app finds it on its own from the place and the date, and it knows the historical time rules, so births from long ago are handled too. If you do know the time zone, you can of course set it yourself.

The app is free to use. It is made with care by Namkha Encyclopedia.

Privacy policy

To calculate a Namkha, the app needs the details you enter in the form: the name (optional), gender, and the date, time, and place of birth. They are sent to our server, used for the calculation, and shown on your sheet. Nothing else is collected.

We keep a technical log of each calculation – the birth details you entered and the calculated result – so that we can find and fix mistakes. The name is treated differently: it is never written to the log as text, only as a short scrambled code that cannot be turned back into the name.

When you type in the birth place field, the text you type is sent to Photon, an outside service that provides the place suggestions. It only receives what you type in that one field.
